I must have been a very good girl this year because this gentleman visited me a couple of nights ago and left me plentiful gifts. To be completely honest, my parents spoiled me beyond belief. As well as diverse presents such as The Inbetweeners on DVD, some Strictly Come Dancing goodies, my favourite perfume and - the ultimate in sexy stylishness - a snuggie (!), I was also given books and money (which, in my world, always somehow translates into books.
The bookish haul this year comprised 19 books. Yeah, you heard me. I feel the love of my family right now!
My list runs as follows (all links point to Amazon - that would be the .com version instead of .co.uk - I have no idea to switch it! If anyone in the know does help and can tell me, I would be very grateful!):
1) Fortress of Ice by C. J. Cherryh
2) Fortress of Dragons by C. J. Cherryh
3) Fortress of Owls by C. J. Cherryh

Phew! Some *excellent* books there that I simply can't wait to get to!
This year one of my resolutions is to get that TBR pile down some, so that it doesn't keep giving me nightmares, therefore this will be my last BIG haul for a while and I treasured it for that reason as much as because they are wonderful books that will bring me heaps of pleasure.
I hope your Christmas bookish haul was just as fabulous! What did you get? *all agog*

ReplyDeleteOh, if you happen to do a New Years Resolution post, you are welcome to come link up at the blog and share with others. :) http://melissa-melsworld.blogspot.com/2010/12/to-new-year.html
Sounds like Santa was very good to you. :) Merry Christmas. :)
Oooooh what goodies I spy there! My Dad and OH also spoilt me throughly though my squeals were for the crafting tools they gave me (and a whole room in which ro put them... and lock me away I suspect!) But I did a get the first 3 books HArper Connolly books which I've wanted o read for a while now and a vampire encyclopedia ... plus my sister tracked down a REALLY old dvd of a film I used to adore as a child. It's so old it's in brown and white not black and white :P
ReplyDeleteAm looking forward to the reviews of your books :)
To change your links to .co.uk can you not find the books on Amazon .co.uk and just cut and paste over the top of the American ones?
Oh that's a proper haul :)
ReplyDeleteI got to order about 20 books, but that's because I'm annexing Wiebe's book too ;) Among them, Zoo City, Rivers of London (pre-ordered), two Mercedes Lackey books, the first Black Company omnibus, the first Lex Trent book, A Discovery of Witches (pre-order), Hamilton's Misspent Youth, Abercrombie's The Blade Itself (my first Abercrombie read :D), Daniel Abraham's Shadow and Betrayal, Jemisin's The Broken Kingdoms and several others.
So I'm pretty chuffed and looking forward to getting stuck in :D
You got 19 books for Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is your family's view on adopting 36 year old Norwegians?...
Sounds like you had a great Christmas. I'm happy for you.
Hope you get a wonderful New Year's celebration :-)
wow, thats a sack load of books!
ReplyDeleteSee you got the Cherryh 'Fortress' series. That was a major disappointment for me. It started out so well then began to weaken and ramble for me towards the end. CJ is a great author, but her forays into fantasy have always left more to be desired.
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome haul! Can't wait to see some of the reviews.
ReplyDeleteMy own Christmas was rather bookish in theme. My roommate got me a copy of "Let the Right One In," my father bought me a Kindle 3G, and my mother gave me a $100 Amazon.ca gift certificate. That, along with some certs that I'd saved up from redeeming Swagbucks, allowed me to order 11 new books (one of which is an onmibus edition of a trilogy, so you could also count it as 13 new books if you wanted to). I'm pretty darn happy with my bookish swag!
I got quite a few good books, some I've been wanting to read for a while. Books thi haul include, The Passage, Abraham Lincoln - Vampire Hunter, Tome of the Undergates, The King's Bastard, Gardens of the Moon, Never the bride, Johannes Cabal the Necromancer and I won a copy of The Way of Kings by Sanderson. Those plus my to read pile should keep me busy for a while! 2/3rd through Dresden book 10, then it's time for Tome!
