So, recently I revealed how many series I was currently reading and asked y'all to do the same, which you did in droves (well, there were a few blog posts *grin)
The reason I was poking around in my stacks was to find out the definitive number of my TBR pile. And I finally have it. The number of books waiting to be read and reviewed for the blog is *drumroll*
1770
Crazy, non? I hasten to add that the bulk of these books are those I owned before I started this blogging lark - I've always been a bookworm!
What scares me is I have books in there that I can remember buying over ten years ago that I was absolutely bound and determined to read - and then they got put to one side in favour of my latest shiny...
Anyway, that's my naughty number - dare you share?

Ahum, I'm an amateur lol The number of books in our bookcases that I still need to read and plan to read (since there are several books the hubby owns I have no intention of reading) is 68. If you add to that the number of books I need to reread so I can read the last books in the series I think it amounts to about 80-85. So that should be do-able in about 6 months, that is if I don't add any new books to the collection ;)
ReplyDeleteOK I feel much better. My TBR number is around 208 (plus about 40-50, I'm not sure. I stopped counting around 208).
ReplyDeleteI have 895 books tagged TBR in my LibraryThing account. If I were being honest, I would add the 422 books tagged Storage which are much older TBR books. I too have had some of them on the pile for more than 10 years. One day I will get to them, I hope.
ReplyDelete10 years? If I've had it that long and have not read it, the only reason I'd keep it is if it is a classic. Otherwise, it's traded. I wish I had room for a library of books I'll read one day, but at present, I do not. I'd love to have one, though.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment the stack contains just under sixty books. It's been at that level more or less for almost a year and a half now so I feel I'm doing pretty well. It's about 8 or 9 months worth of reading at my current pace.
ReplyDeleteOf course if I added all the titles I don't actually own but want to read some day.... well, let's not go there.
I dread to think about just how many books I have on my TBR pile, and that wouldn't even include the books I plan to reread so that I can feel confident reviewing them on my bookblog. My number would probably be somewhere around where yours is, give or take, and even that that wouldn't include library books that I know I can get easy access to and want to read. There just isn't enough time in the world to get through everything!
ReplyDeleteBut you know, that's part of what makes this all so much fun.
I can easily beat you! I may not have many physical books, but boy oh boy I think I have around 2,000 e-books to compete with you. :D
ReplyDeleteStill, how many days did it too to get that counted?
Eek, that's a lot of books!
ReplyDeleteI used to have what I considered to be a large TBR pile (180ish books), but I spend all last year whittling it down. I eventually got it below 100, at which point I purged a lot of stuff that I knew I was no longer interested in. Then I moved to the other side of the world and had to leave most of my unread books behind, so my physical TBR is now a manageable 7 books and shrinking.
Reading as much as you do is only a dream to me, I wish I could read half as much nay even a quarter. But that does'nt stop me adding books to the TBR pile, which unbelievably would exceed even your own number!
ReplyDeleteI only wish a reasonable number of books made it from the TBR to the "Read and Finished Pile".
Wow, I thought I had a lot. Mine's somewhere in the middle triple digits. 1770 is very impressive!
ReplyDeleteI do a purge on occasion, asking myself if I'm still interested in such and such book. I don't do it very often though.
Over two meters of TBR books. Sometimes I'm glad of it, thinking it means hours of pleasure to come. Sometimes I'm sad because it's with books as with people : it may be too early or too late in my life to befriend them. And some of them have been waiting for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThat is fab - wish I had room for that many. My magic number is 75 at the moment. I posted a picture of my TBR pile recently on my blog at:http://www.onemorepage.co.uk/index.php/2010/09/on-my-bookshelf/
ReplyDeleteFour weeks later and I've still got 75 books to read just different ones lol!
Ok....wow! If you manage to read all of those you'll be my idol!
ReplyDeleteI may have like....60 books waiting for me? LOL
478 to be read, according to what I have logged in Goodreads, and this number grows almost daily as I pick up books on my travels or online. What keeps me sane (and solvent!) is that I get a lot secondhand, either through charity shops and market stalls etc. or online through the amazon marketplace, abe's books or the book depository.
ReplyDeleteBut given that I am moving soon, there are over 1000 books to be boxed up and physically relocated... maybe it is time to stop acquiring and make do with what I've already got? Somehow, knowing my book addiction, that isn't going to happen any time soon. As a result of accepting that, I will be buying a Kindle. There's room for 3,500 books on there!
OH WOW. I know someone who has about 1400 on her TBR pile, but you definitely topped her! Wow. My Goodreads list is 88 and I think that's pretty accurate since I check that often. ^^;
ReplyDeleteAgain, wow.
1188 listed on Goodreads for me, plus another 102 I haven't finished.
