Good review of False Gods, by the way, but I didn't really like it. I have nothing against McNeill's writing, I quite like a lot of his phrases and descriptions for example, but I simply didn't like where he took Horus's character. Or, rather, HOW he took him there. That outburst near the start, which namechecks the baddie out of the first book, was so obviously engineered to push Horus forward to betraying the Emperor that it actually felt out-of-place. Like an obvious plot point.
